Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Your expertise can result in topic credits toward your degree or straight entry into undergraduate and graduate programs.
You will have gained a variety of skills, abilities, and experiences over your existence. No matter where or when it was acquired, this learning—which may have occurred outside of official schooling and training—is valuable. You may have received information or skills from a variety of sources, including short courses, community service, on-the-job training, and work experience in a related sector.

Based on the depth and breadth of your knowledge, RPL enables you to earn credits toward formal certificate, diploma, and degree degrees provided by Unisa. Your prior learning will be evaluated in relation to predetermined learning objectives.

How do I apply to Unisa for RPL?

  • For further information and to get an RPL application form, please get in touch with the appropriate RPL academic coordinator indicated below. An automatic response will be issued to emails sent to our address, rpl@unisa.ac.za, instructing you to resend your inquiry to the appropriate RPL coordinator.

Who is eligible for RPL?

  • You must be at least 23 years old.
  • 5 years of relevant job experience in a relevant subject.
  • If you hold an incomplete qualification or a QCTO qualification with fewer than 360 NQF credits, three years of relevant work experience will suffice for the RPL application.
