Rules pertaining to Unisa’s psychology Honours

This qualification can be finished in one year. Prospective students choosing to do it over more than one year are advised to register for the Research Report in their final year of study.

State Purpose

The qualification’s main goal is to equip Honours BA graduates with systematic knowledge, specialised skills, and theoretical competence that are focused on or within a particular topic or within an interdisciplinary framework in order to get them ready for advanced-level specialised training.

Who can sign up?
Only after receiving notification from Unisa that their admissions application has been accepted may applicants register. If it is discovered that you were improperly admitted to a qualification, Unisa reserves the right to refuse to process and/or delete your registration. Admission is not a given to the alternative qualification. Whether you meet the prerequisites for admission and whether there is room for you will depend on these factors.
Once the registration period begins, re-registered students can sign up for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Please take note: If you want to start a new qualification, you must submit an online application for the substitute qualification within the designated application period.

choosing your modules

Each Unisa qualification is designed so that in order to graduate, you must pass a specific number of NQF level credits within a specific amount of time.

  • Co-requisite: Module A is a co-requisite for Module B. You want to register for Module B, but have not yet passed Module A. You must then register for both Modules A and B simultaneously. You may NOT cancel your registration for Module A unless Module B is also cancelled.
  • Pre-requisite: If Module A is a pre-requisite for Module B, you must pass Module A before you may register for Module B.

More than the maximum number of credits or modules each academic year and/or semester—60 credits per semester or 120 credits per academic year—may not be registered for.

The maximum number of credits do not include supplementary and / or aegrotat examinations from a previous semester. Modules taken for non-degree / non-diploma purposes also count towards the maximum number of credits allowed.

You must take your available time into consideration when choosing your modules, as this will impact your academic performance. You need approximately

  • 6 to 8 hours per week for semester modules.
  • 4 to 6 hours per week for year modules.
