Students in the BA program in the College of Human Sciences must select either the Psychology or Industrial and Organizational Psychology first-level courses.
The first-level anthropology module (APY1501) and the philosophy (Critical Reasoning) module (PLS2601) are recommended for students who choose psychology as their major study.
FOR THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, AND TECHNOLOGY: It is recommended that students who choose psychology as their major take first-level statistics (or math) and/or philosophy courses before or concurrently with third-level courses.

Purpose: 
  • Gaining an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of social perception and cognition, attitudes, identity, and prejudice, as well as pro- and antisocial behavior and group behavior, will make it easier to apply social psychology to fields like clinical psychology, health, organizations, and society at large.
Psychology of Work – PYC4810
Honours Year module NQF level: 8 Credits: 12

Co-requisite: HMPYC80

Purpose:

  • The purpose of this paper on the psychology of work is to apply psychological theory, concepts, and research to problems that affect both workers and management in organizations. The implicit starting point is that, in a way, practical social psychology is what the psychology of work is all about. The practical portion of the course requires students to describe the specifics of their employment. Organizational behavior, fundamental human processes, people working in groups, group processes, influencing others, and organizational processes like the work environment, organizational structure and design, and organizational change and development are just a few of the important topics discussed.
