Applications for undergraduate limited qualifications (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and degrees) for the 2022 academic year will be accepted from May 10 to May 31, 2022.
Anyone who wishes to begin a new qualification must apply for admission. This comprises

  • Unisa first-time applicants
  • Students at Unisa who are pursuing a new qualification and/or specialization.
  • Applicants who previously applied for admission but were not offered a spot, or who were offered a spot but did not register.
  • students who have completed a higher certificate or another program and wish to continue their undergraduate studies

What is new in 2024?

  • Unisa is well-known for providing equal and fair access to higher education opportunities. Unisa has an application and selection process that effectively addresses historical imbalances without sacrificing quality standards, stemming from its social responsibility to address past inequalities.
  • This process encourages focused attention on improved student support and the alignment of our new student intake with available academic capacity and required infrastructure to maximize the chances of success for all students.

What is the selection procedure?

  • The calculation of your individual points score, which takes into account your final Grade 12 marks and other key factors such as the school you attended, as well as your gender, socioeconomic group, race, and so on, is at the heart of the selection process.
  • Please ensure that you meet the statutory and college-specific admission requirements, as well as the required academic points score (APS) for your chosen qualification, before submitting an application (s). The required APS score varies from college to college and qualification to qualification. For admission requirements, please see each qualification.
  • It is critical to note that you will not be automatically accepted to study at Unisa in 2022. Students will be accommodated based on the number of available spaces for each qualification.

The procedure for applying

  • You may apply for up to two qualifications in the order of preference (although you may only register for one should both of your qualifications be successful).
  • The outcome of your application will be communicated to you by Unisa. If you are successful, Unisa will notify you of the qualification for which you have been accepted and will offer you a space for the period for which you applied (ie semester 1).
  • You must accept or decline Unisa’s offer within the time frame specified. If you fail to meet this deadline, Unisa will withdraw your offer and assign your spot to another applicant.
  • Before accepting an offer from Unisa, first-time applicants must complete the First-Year Experience (FYE) MOOC (massive open online course).
  • You may accept only one offer. This means that if you accept an offer for one qualification (whether it is your first or second choice), the other offer will be automatically withdrawn.
  • If you accept Unisa’s offer, you must enroll for the time period for which you have been admitted. If you do not register for the applicable semester of study, you must reapply for admission during the next application period.

Who is required to apply?

  • Anyone who wishes to begin a new qualification must apply for admission. This includes first-time Unisa applicants as well as Unisa students transitioning to a new qualification and/or specialization.
  • If you are completing a higher certificate and want to continue with your undergraduate studies, you must apply for admission.
  • If you previously applied for admission and were offered a space, but did not accept the offer and/or did not register for any reason, you must reapply.
  • Under the Unisa-TVET agreement, anyone who wishes to enroll in classes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college must apply for admission.
